A3: Looking back and the way forward

Funny old things, anniversaries. An occasion to both commemorate a journey made together and - one hopes - to reaffirm that commitment. Indeed, the big gemstone corporations romantic types would have us mark the occasion with a blue topaz. But that seems a little gaudy for the PC's premier military experience.

Instead, on the day of its 4th - let's say, rather - birthday, we'd like to cerebrate with an Arma 3 retrospective that broadly charts our adventure thus far, and

None of this is cheap. Our expenses top $1,600 a year. We don't charge our members monthly dues or fees and we never will. But once a year, we reach out to you and ask for your help. And guess what?

It's that time of year! We've got about a month to raise funds to renew our game, Opserv and forum servers. Anything you can donate helps. To elaborate, if everyone donated just $4.00 USD, that would put us over our goal and give us a nice buffer to fund lots of events and fun adventures for next year! Don't think your contribution is too small. They add up quick! The good news is we are more than halfway there! You can also track progress through the Fundraiser Tracker on the right side of the forums.

If you are able, please send your PayPal donation to: bwcordo@the-bwc.com
Please set your payment as Friends and Family so we don't get hit with fees. Those add up quick, too.

If you have any questions, send a PM to our Outreach & Resource Deployment Office (ORDO) C&S, Oikirv and Asperante, and they will get back to you as soon as they can. From all of us on the back side running things... thank you!

On September 23 - 24th, there will be three sorties organized featuring a re-enactment of the Pacific War that established the dominant role of carriers over battleships.

The three operations planned will be:

Surprise Attack on Pearl Harbor / Battle of the Coral Sea / Battle of Midway

Setting of each battle will be created and several launches will be held.

History

It is generally considered that the Pacific War began on 7/8 December 1941, on which date Japan invaded Thailand and attacked the British possessions of Malaya, Singapore, and Hong Kong as well as the United States military bases in Hawaii, Wake Island, Guam and the Philippines.

In January, Japan invaded Burma, the Dutch East Indies, New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and captured Manila, Kuala Lumpur and Rabaul. After being driven out of Malaya, Allied forces in Singapore attempted to resist the Japanese during the Battle of Singapore, but were forced to surrender to the Japanese on 15 February 1942; about 130,000 Indian, British, Australian and Dutch personnel became prisoners of war. The pace of conquest was rapid: Bali and Timor also fell in February.

Meanwhile, Japanese aircraft had all but eliminated Allied air power in Southeast Asia and were making attacks on northern Australia.

At the Battle of the Java Sea in late-February and early-March, the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) inflicted a resounding defeat on the main allied American-British-Dutch-Australian naval force. The Dutch East Indies campaign subsequently ended with the surrender of Allied forces on Java and Sumatra.

The Doolittle Raid in April 1942 in which bombers took off from the aircraft carrier USS Hornet 600 miles (970 km) from Japan, did minimal material damage but was a huge morale boost for the United States, and it had major psychological repercussions exposing the vulnerabilities of the Japanese homeland. The greatest effect of the raid, however, was that it caused the Japanese to launch the ultimately catastrophic assault on Midway.

Participating in any one operation will be rewarded by a ribbon.

Attending all three will be rewarded by a medal.
