WoWS: Ship Shenanigans!

World of Warships C&S have been holding a weekly Operation on Sundays at 15:00 with a new twist to training and fun.

Ship Shenanigans are meant to have fun in a crazy, unpredictable way and get the team spirit juices flowing abundantly. If you have some kind of weird association with that last phrase ... well that's all your fault heh.

World of Warships C&S have decided to continue weekly Operations because of attendance and the awesome level of fun for

The first Battlefield 1 DLC, They Shall Not Pass, releases in March and will feature the hardened veterans of the French army as they make a stand in a brutal defense of their homeland. There's still no firm release date for They Shall Not Pass outside of 'March 2017,' though we know that owners of the Premium Pass will get two weeks early access to all DLC. The DLC will be bringing four new maps and a new mode, Frontlines. Experience a mix of Conquest and Rush as you fight for chained control points in a tug-of-war frontline. Both teams fight for one flag at a time and when this objective is captured the action moves on to the next. When one team makes it all the way to the other's HQ, "the game turns into a Rush-style section where telegraph posts need to be attacked or defended." Frontlines will create the opportunity for lengthy, back-and-forth battles for attrition over a single area. In the meantime, let's take a closer look at the upcoming content!

Hardened and fearless, the French join the fight. Don the characteristic blue uniform and defend your homeland.

Spawn into the super-heavy Char 2C tank behemoth
and turn the tide of the entire battle.
The St. Chamond Assault Tank Gun was the "most heavily
armed allied tank of the war."

Use the melee skills of the new Elite Class: the Trench Raider.
With the brutal Raider Club and impressive grenade arsenal,
you will be a terrifying sight.
Similar to a Field Gun, the Siege Howitzer can be operated
by an infantry player. This new stationary weapon is
operated through indirect aiming/firing in the
same vein as mortars and artillery in vehicles.

Verdun Heights

The opening barrage of the Battle of Verdun
created massive forest fires in which players
will fight for domination. This is an uphill
battle towards the massive fortresses of
Verdun. A constant grinding struggle
where the artillery never stops.
Fort Vaux

The first big engagement inside a fort
during World War 1 takes place in the
dark underworld of Fort Vaux. Down in
the maze of dark galleries and wet stone
corridors, French and Germans fight
ferociously with grenades, guns,
bayonets, and flamethrowers.

Take part in one of the biggest tank assaults
of World War 1. The French 10th Army moves
to take back Soissons using their powerful
Saint Chamond tanks. Planes, tanks, and
infantry clash in the beautiful French
countryside in the early hours of a hot
summer day.

In dire need to capture key bridges across the
Aisne river, the French find themselves back into
battlefields where poppies grow over a rusty
wreck from previous tank battles. It might seem
calm but this maze of steel beasts provides an
excellent place for those who plan an ambush.

Tank Commanders!

Wargaming is reopening the Sandbox for another round of testing! Sandbox is a separate test server where developers and players can work together on the balance of vehicles in World of Tanks. This server will let you play the game with all the changes as they happen and influence the developers' decisions about the future. Learn more HERE.

After introducing a lot of massive changes all at once in the first iteration, the dev team collected and analyzed community feedback. This time, they’re taking a more “compartmentalized” approach and continue fine-tuning features that showed good results during the previous test.

Changes will be clustered into two phases, each with specific “packs" of changes for testing:
Phase 1: Armor penetration and accuracy mechanics; normalizing damage values of overpowered and underpowered guns
Phase 2: All-round work on artillery

The first phase began January 19. The goal is to test tweaks aimed at creating more fun, active gameplay for well-armored, slow vehicles. Their intended role is to lead an attack, while taking on enemy fire thanks to their solid HP pool and strong armor. Instead, the current mechanics encourage these tanks to shy away from close-range engagements and force them to play a lot like tank destroyers, to avoid being spotted and destroyed before they can ever set the battle line. We end with a somewhat dull camping match all too frequently.

To make armor relevant again, the dev team is altering several core mechanics. These changes should encourage players in well-armored heavy tanks to be more mobile and seek ways to close the distance to targets.

1. Shot distribution within the aiming circle - The revised mechanic has fewer shots clustered closer to its center. As a result, hitting weak spots at range is more difficult for the guns that have bad dispersion (0.4 or more), while aim time, armor, and gun stabilization become more important. Those who participated in the first Sandbox iteration will find the new solution is nearly the same as then, but this time, the perception of this change is unaffected by other significant changes surrounding it.

2. Penetration loss over distance - AP and APCR shells penetration values begin decreasing at 50m (not 100m) and they lose 18% and 23%, respectively, of their initial values at 500m. This should facilitate action-packed, close-range engagements and make armor thickness more relevant, while maneuvering in the enemy's sight becomes safer with distance. The devs tested a similar solution in the first iteration, and found it too radical. Now they’re testing reduced penetration falloff to see if it’s enough to make maneuvering and flanking safer, without disrupting the fun.

Finally, there’s also a “pack” of less fundamental, yet significant changes we’d like to test during the first phase: revised alpha damage of heavy tanks and TDs.

1. Currently, vehicles with very high alpha damage (the JagdPz. E 100, FV 4005, or FV 215b (183)) foster artillery-like gameplay. The devs will try to fix it by reducing excessively high alpha damage of very high-caliber (170+mm) guns, while also improving their reloading time to keep the DPM unchanged.

2. At the same time, the devs are increasing the damage of 120mm guns to the damage rating of the 122mm guns (at the moment, this minuscule difference in caliber results in a 10% reduction of damage: 400 vs. 440). Their reload time gets increased as well, to keep the DPM intact.

These are two delicate issues, and Sandbox gives the dev team the perfect opportunity to see how the changes will impact gameplay.

World of Tanks is a supported game in BWC’s Warfare Division.
