Attention to Orders.

It’s that time of the month again when we recognize the effort put into the Black Widow Company by its members.

New Recruits to BWC are subjected to a mandatory two week trial period so they can test to see if BWC is what they’re looking for and for their C&S to see if they are a good fit. They complete a quick Onboarding to introduce them to how we run things in BWC such as Opserv, a basic training (“BTI”) to teach them how their chosen gaming division works, and one operation where they have the opportunity to join fellow BWC members in a live-fire test of their skills.

During the month of March, 13 recruits fulfilled their requirements and became full members of the Company at the rank of E-2.

Please join us in congratulating these new members to BWC. On behalf of all of us, welcome to the jungle!

We also saw 6 promotions this month within our meta game to both E-3 and E-4.

Congratulations, and we hope you take the next steps towards the NCO ranks!

Speaking of NCOs, Jr4life24 has broken through into the NCO ranks - obtaining the NBR rank of E-5. In addition, Evans attained his E-6, and Katou,Cavgunner, and Xavore have attained the rank of E-7. Finally, Rectorol became our newest E-8, the highest NBR NCO rank available in BWC. BWC is unique in that our members have the opportunity, as opposed to many gaming organizations, to advance to permanent positions of authority within our ranks. These members have proven via reputation, deed, and accomplishments to have both the desire and knowledge to help us maintain the standards of fun for all our members. They are the true backbone of who we are. Voted in by current NCOs in a review setting, these folks are the real heart and soul of BWC and we applaud anyone who takes that step.

This is somewhat of a personal write up. Many of you have read the various awards, promotions and such I’ve written, and I pride myself on really getting to know the person I am discussing; I feel there is a certain level of empathy and understanding that can be missed if you don’t focus on the smallest of details.

With Jr4life24, I can’t go down the same route.

Not because I don’t know Jr, but because I do. I’ve known him almost 2 years now, and in that time I have seen this man go through downs as well as ups. I’ve seen him stumble, pick himself up, brush the crap off his uniform and carry on walking as he listens to the counsel around him. I’ve seen him implement that advice, and become a better person. I’ve seen him make decisions that affect the very gaming lives of some people within BWC, for better or worse. I’ve been involved in discussions with him about how he feels he’s affected people in those manners; how he takes the burden and understands that a decision needs to be made, no matter what.

Jr4life24 very nearly didn’t make it past 3 months in Black Widow Company. He had a rocky start, and figured that perhaps this place wasn’t for him. If not for the timely intervention of people within BWC, we would have lost what I consider today to be one of the best up and coming (if not already there!) C&S we have.

After the initial run through of PlanetSide 2 and this bump in the road, Jr4life24 came back with a vengeance, ready to prove all the naysayers wrong. He threw himself into the spirit of our community, engaging heavily in ArmA 3, earning positive feedback as a frontman for the fierce motivation and drive required for our MilSim specialist game.

He then decided to step up and volunteer his time as the PlanetSide 2 recruiter in January 2016. His role there soon showed as he drew in players at a steady rate. However, during the billet, Jr4life24 couldn’t help himself, and looked to his C&S team for more work to do. It was here that things really changed gear. Jr picked up a number of trainings for rewrite, working through them at a startling pace and shocking many people higher up in the chain of command. His work was ceaseless, seemingly never-ending, and earned the rightful attention of various people as PlanetSide 2 began its move into what was Vanguard Regiment.

Here, Jr was handed the reins, literally. His workrate couldn’t be ignored, and Vanguard placed him in command of PlanetSide 2 after a transitional period. Despite the feeling of sorrow, Jr just wouldn’t accept it, and dived headfirst into the role. He revamped key areas of the game within BWC, stripping away the parts that didn’t work or refused to, and replacing it with a steady, holding number of players who knew that what was needed was unity. Jr ran operations every week, pushing that feeling of unity and engaging the players to get better, push harder, never stop.

People began to notice, and so things started climbing once again. It was in no small part to the team that Jr4life24 built around himself, but there was clear evidence of his drive and determination. It was with this in mind that Jr was then picked by BWC Command to head up what we now know as Battle Division. Here, he continues with that never-ending drive to do better, push harder, work longer. I see no signs of stopping, and I can honestly say that over the almost 2 years I’ve known Jr4life24, I’ve come to know him as a true friend, and someone I value the opinion of, as well as his ability to lay it all out without beating around the bush.

Every diamond starts off rough, lacking shine; the edges are frayed, ruffled. But it is the work done on the very core of that rock that creates what people see on the outside.

Jr4life24 is just such a rock, having been forged under pressure and come out shining. I see no reason why BWC cannot accept him into the ranks of the NCO Corps, and I know this man will continue to shine no matter what comes his way.

Evans is an NBR E-5 currently billeted as a the World of Tanks OIC within the warfare division. His previous billets include World of Warships OIC, Noble Battalion OIC, and Eternal Crusade OIC. He has 4 Joint Operations, 41 operations led, 25 trainings and 5 field training exercises. He has also hosted 2 social events and 10 meetings across a variety of games. He has squad led across 39 additional operations. His activity and presence can be felt across a variety of games within BWC, ranging from Arma 3 to World of Wargaming he shows up and plays to the spirit of “One Team, One Fight!”

During his time as Noble Battalion OIC, Evans has helped with the creation of the Advanced Ship Courses for World of Warships, the Basic Armor Courses for Armored Warfare, and the revision of the Class Trainings for World of Tanks through constructive feedback and support. He maintained a system of regular meetings with his staff to discuss goals and set new areas for improvement to achieve more - the key success of which has been his dedication and ambition to making sure these goals are met whether they be through administrative creation of trainings and awards for newer players, running orientations on demand for new recruits, or even participating in the game operations of Noble Battalion to be in touch with his own community.

Since his time as Noble OIC he has made sure to go out of his way to help out within the Warfare Division, taking up the NCOIC spot of World of Warships. He took on learning the trainings and becoming proficient at the game. He is their current supremacy league team captain. However this billet was cut short due to the World of Tanks oic having some real life stuff come up. Since Evans was equally proficient at World of Tanks, he made the obvious choice to take over. We pushed him into the new role and he has leapt in with the enthusiasm of a 12 year old learning how to cannonball for the first time. He is currently planning the games internal tournaments and is also doing a review of our current trainings.
Evans is an active NBR E-5 who has gone to great lengths to be a front line leader in our games and to be open and helpful to the new recruit. He is absolutely deserving to be promoted to E-6. We have full faith that Evans will continue to perform and trust he will continue to excel. Please join me in congratulating Evans on this achievement!

It seems like just yesterday I was writing up Katou's E-6 promotion. For those who do not know him, Katou was a member of the ARMA 3 winter 2015 recruiting class that brought us much of our top players (including our current CO, Cavgunner). I commented on his dedication to the unit in his E-6 writeup, now 7 months later Katou has continued to perform at a truly impressive level. 337 live fire operations, 322 trainings attended, 171 trainings led, and 128 significant leadership activities continue to put Katou at the very top of ARMA 3's activity list.

As stated in his E-6 write-up, Katou never hesitates to accept leadership responsibilities. As head of the ARMA S-3 training department, Katou was instrumental in establishing our rigorous and complete training schedule for the year he was in the billet. Taking a well-deserved break in September of 2016, when real life intervened with his replacement's ability to perform his duties, Katou volunteered to take his position back and is once again working on improving things for our trainees. Katou's dedication to the unit put him a step above the rest and ensures our new recruits have the tools and knowledge to hit the ground running in our complicated operations.

In game, Katou is a humble professional who is supremely skilled in just about every role ARMA has to offer. From spotting for snipers at 1,000 meters and calling shot corrections (in ARMA corrections are done with proper miliradian scope adjustments), to driving logistics vehicles behind the lines, Katou has done it all and has done it all to a standard that few other players in the regiment can match. I have never seen him get angry or frustrated and he always sets a stellar example for others to follow.

This was one of the easiest NBR forms I have filled out in my time as ARMA RSM, because Katou can do no wrong. Everything he touches turns to gold and he does not half-ass anything, even if it is not technically his job. For his hard work and supreme loyalty to the unit, Katou is eminently deserving of promotion to E-7.

Another member of the winter 2015 class, Cavgunner has attended 369 operations, led nearly 100 trainings as a Drill Instructor and S-3 2IC, and has 128 significant squad leads, which has him tied with Katou at the top of the ARMA significant leadership counts. Cavgunner has additional dedicated a huge amount of time to working on trainings and also putting together the excellent training map which allows the ARMA regiment to practice their skills without having to spend time setting up scenarios. Additionally, Cavgunner has also created scripted missions, including game modes based on Ghost Recon: Wildlands and Rainbow 6: Siege, that I mentioned in his E-6 write-up (both of which he is still working on 7 months later).

When Rectorol made the decision to step down form the ARMA CO position, there was only one name on the list of people to replace him. Cavgunner has hit the ground running in his new role, providing a seamless transition thanks to his excellent organization skills and dedication. As mentioned in his E-6 write-up, Cavgunner's name appears on just about every document related to ARMA produced. His insight is valuable and appreciated, and has helped to provide the strong training foundation the regiment currently enjoys.

Cavgunner is an excellent leader in the field but is also never afraid to step into the less-glamorous roles. Whether it be carrying machine gun ammo (which is how I first met him) or spending entire operations driving respawning players back into the fight, Cavgunner will always do what is needed regardless of the task. In the wake of Rectorol's departure from the billet, Cavgunner had huge shoes to fill and has done a magnificent job continuing the ARMA regiment's tradition of excellence.

Cavgunner is willing to put in the work to continue making ARMA 3 into a superb regiment and thusly deserves promotion to E-7.

Since Xavore’s last promotion, a little over a year ago, he has added 147 more Operations under his belt, leading 84 of them, and 16 of those were training. Bringing his grand total of OPs attended to 488 in 3 years. He has received the Commendation Medal, a Command and Executive Unit citation, two Leader of the Month and one Quarter award, and the 4th level OTOF award for both 2015 and 2016. Xavore showcases he is not just a SC member and continues to embrace the One Team One Fight by playing games across BWC, such as WoT, Overwatch, MWO, PS2, WoW, and WoWs, even including some unsupported games.

Xavore has moved up the billeted ranks in the past 3 years from BNCOIC to now, the SC RSM. Regardless of what’s going on with BWC, Star Citizen, or seemly even his life for that matter, Xavore keeps pressing forward by continually and consistently hosting operations for our PACRIM folks, assisting members like DrZombie with the Joint Operations, and provides valuable feedback during development of training, structure, or policies. He has even hosted SC training that falls outside of his billeted duties showing that he's willing to go above and beyond his responsibilities to help, participate, and contribute when and how he can. He had successfully planned and executed multiple seasons of an internal SC racing event called the BWC CUP. He’s made additional time outside of his duties, for events and members of BWC to play, chat, or to help in anyway he can. He is always interacting with members and looking for new and exciting ways to liven up the SC Regiment. He’s level-headed and remains cool, calm, and collective when dealing with issues and gets any given tasks completed without question and in a timely manner. Xavore is a prime example and role model for the NCO cadre to follow and I doubt he’ll stop here.

Please join me in congratulating on Xavore's promotion!

- Trister // SC RCO

Four and a half years in BWC. 420 operations led. 726 operations attended. 36 months billeted time in grade across two games. The numbers that show up in Rectorol's jacket are truly mind-boggling. Out of the entirety of BWC, there are very few others who even come close to any one of those numbers, much less all of them combined. Loyalty, Dependability, and Selfless Service? There can be absolutely no doubt in anyone's mind that Rectorol does not live up to these core values with a jacket that looks like that.

I like using numbers in these NBR write-ups because they are universally understood across BWC. If you see someone has 726 operations attended, regardess of which regiment you are in, you can understand that is an enormous amount of time playing games with BWC. If you see 420 operations led, even if you do not understand the specifics of what goes into leading an ARMA or Planetside 2 operation, you at least have some idea of how impressive that quantity is. When you see that someone has been running game regiments for 3 years of his life, that resonates. Numbers do not tell the whole story, however.

I frequently call attention to the unique nature of ARMA missions when doing award write-ups. It is impressive enough to coordinate 420 operations even if all you do is get everyone online at the right time to go do something. In ARMA, you are not done just by getting everyone on the server at the right time because the server is an empty sandbox. You have to build the missions from scratch during play similar to how a Dungeon Master in DnD (which Rectorol also does) runs a game. That means for everyone one of those operations in ARMA that Rectorol ran, not only was he coordinating everyone, but he was also literally creating the fun from nothing for each of those. Much like I wrote in Travco's E-6 promotion, without the Zeuses running missions, there are no operations.

Without Rectorol, there would be no ARMA. ARMA is one of the more active BWC games and we are also one of the larger units on the official ARMA 3 units list, and all of this is because of Rectorol's hard work in creating and establishing the regiment 3 years ago, this after coming off of running the enormously successful Planetside 2 regiment previously. Everything Rectorol has touched in BWC has turned to gold and even if you just look at his work in ARMA alone he has clearly made a lasting impact on this community.

He builds operations from nothing, he builds regiments from nothing, and he does it all gladly for very little recognition. I could go on for pages and pages about Rectorol, but what more needs to be said? By any objective measure he deserves E-8, if for no other reason than the sheer amount of time and effort he has dedicated to BWC and ARMA in particular; and that is still saying nothing of the work he did in Planetside 2 prior to ARMA existing or me joining BWC. Rectorol represents the best of BWC and it is my privilege to recommend him for E-8.

It is always a pleasure to recognize the dedication of members who continually show that they are driven by giving enjoyment to others, and selflessly dedicated to maintaining an aura of fun wherever they might be. We are a community of gamers first and foremost, and there wouldn’t be a community without the efforts of people like these gentlemen. Thank you all for your dedication to the continued excellence of the Black Widow Company, and thank you to everyone else for contributing to this community.
